Miami

Hey guys, it's Rachel
I'm going to be talking about a city in Florida a well known travel destination- Miami. This city is in Florida, a state at the south of the east coast. Miami is known for entertainment and nightlife, and scenic beaches.

Miami has many beautiful national parks, such as the Everglades National park located at the south of Lake Okeechobee. This park is 1.5 million acres, and there is so much activity happening in this area; from fishing and boating to hiking and biking. This park also preserves animals and plants in their natural habitat. There are also endless water activities on the white sand beaches like boat tours, and plenty of waterparks to spend the day at- like the Grapeland waterpark.

Miami also has multiple wildlife attractions; there is Everglades safari park where you can see wild hogs, alligators, crocodiles, turtles and racoons. You can also visit Miami zoo, the home of 2,000 animals, including bears, gorillas, pelicans and rhinos. There is also a semi-natural rainforest center called Monkey Jungle, where there are 30 different species of monkeys to see.

This is a picture of monkeys in the Monkey Jungle park.

Las Vegas

Hey guys, it's Rachel
Today, I'm back talking about a whole new city!! It is quite different to the places I have previously talked about- the city is Las Vegas. Las Vegas is located in a desert region in Nevada, and it is the entertainment capital of the world the city is known to most people for its gambling, night life and other entertainment. According to wikipedia it is the most iconic place in Nevada, and it leads the state in the financial and commercial industry.

Hotels are a big part of Las Vegas- for example, you may have heard of the hotel Caesar's Palace. This city has also recreated some famous landmarks and places from around the world, such as;
  • the Eiffel Tower
  • the Venetian hotel- with gondala rides (just like in Venice!)
  • the Colusseum in Caesar's Palace hotel- a Roman style
  • the Luxor hotel- this hotel has an Egyptian theme, as it is in the shape of a pyramid and there is a large sphinx statue beside the hotel
The above picture is of Caesar Palace Hotel

Las Vegas tends to be very hot in the summer, seeing as it is in a desert region. On average, July is the hottest month of the year- temperatures can reach up to 41 degrees Celsius! The coldest month of the year is December, when temperatures drop to 8 degrees celsius on average- but it there have been previous recordings of temperatures at 1 degree Celsius.

Los Angeles

Hey guys, it's Rachel
Today I'm back and I'll be talking about LA- often called the 'city of angels.' Los Angeles is a vast city, and is the home to over 3.8 million people- including hundreds of celebrities and Hollywood stars, from the KarJenner family to Brad Pitt and Jay Z.

Kylie Jenner and Brad Pitt- iconic Hollywood celebrities

LA is the place to be if you are in the film an TV industry; in Hollywood, Los Angeles there are six major film distributors- known as the 'big six.' The 'big six' are Universal Pictures, Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Columbia- Tristar Pictures and Walt Disney Studios. These companies have released so many now famous films; from Universal's Jaws, and E.T. to the Harry Potter movies and Star Wars from Warner Bros. As you are probably well aware, Universal an Walt Disney have now got their own very popular theme parks! There are now Universl Studio parks at Orlando in Florda, Japan and the original theme park in Hollywood. Disney also have theme parks worldwide; EuroDisney in Paris, DisneyWorld in Orlando, multiple resorts through Asia and of course, the first resort- Disneyland LA.

There are so many places to visit in LA, and things to do and see; for example visiting Griffith's observatory, getting the perfect picture of the Hollywood sign up on the hills, window shopping in Bevery Hills, walking down Hollywood Boulevard, visiting Santa Monica pier and beach, doing a tour of the stars homes, spending the day in Disneyland or Universal Studios and so much more!

San Francisco

Hey guys, it's Rachel
Today I'm going to be talking about a city I visited almost two years ago- San Francisco. This city is in  north California on the west coast of America- or the 'golden coast,' which it is often referred to as. The population of the city was over 835,000 as recorded by the American Community Survey in 2013. San Francisco is the third largest city in California, and has the fourth highest population in the state.

In this picture you can notice the steep hill that the tram is going down. San Francisco is often called the 'hilly city,' due to the number of steep hills that run throughout it.

San Francisco has many tourist attractions and sights, some of the most famous attractions include; the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Lombard street, Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf, Union square and many more! The Golden Gate bridge is an iconic bridge and is painted 'international orange.' You may know that San Francisco often gets low lying fog. The Golden Gate bridge can actually influence the direction of the fog, and it can often push the fog beneath the bridge.

San Francisco is also well known for its cable car line, these days it is mainly used by tourists and is far more expensive than it used to be. Alcatraz is also a famous prison, on an island in SF bay. However, there are no prisoners held there anymore, and it is now open to the public for tours of the jail and the island itself. Lombard street is another attraction that San Francisco has to offer- it is the world's twistiest street. The reason the road has so many twists, is because it is on such a steep hill and without all of the bends, it would be too dangerous to drive down!

There are so many attractions to see in this city, from museums and the japanese tea garden
to Chinatown and Union square. There is plenty to do in this city whether you're on a weekend city break, or a holiday.
Thanks for reading!

New York City

Hey guys, it's Rachel

Today I'm going to be talking about my favourite city in the U.S.A - New York City. But before I go any further- the state of New York is on U.S. east coast. It is often known as the city that never sleeps, because it is so lively and no matter what hour it is, there are always cabs on the streets, and the city is constanty lit up by buildings.

http://media.gettyimages.com/videos/aerial-shot-flying-over-the-east-river-and-roosevelt-island-toward-video-id

The first thing you need to know about New York City is that there are five boroughs within the city; Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan, and they are all connected by bridges. I went to Manhattan two years ago, and I visited a number of the endless sights and things to do on the island.

The population of New York City is just over 8.5 million, that is nearly twice the population of Ireland in one city!! The main type of housing in NYC is in high- rise buildings, meaning most people live in apartments. This is mainly because of the size of the city's population, and to create more space. If you look at Manhattan on a map, you will notice that all the streets run from east to west, and the avenues run from north to south.

Manhattan is considered the most popular of the five boroughs, and also the most important due to the high levels of trading and business there. The island is known for its skyline view, architecture, skyscrapers, foods- like pizza and bagels, fashion, broadway shows, and famous landmarks. According to Wikipedia, in 2013 three of Manhattan's landmarks made the top 10 most visited places- Times Square, Grand Central Train Station and Central Park. Manhattan is also home to some of the worlds tallest skyscrapers; such as the Chrysler building, the Empire State, One World Trade Centre and Trump World Tower.
